Automatically recommend relevant products

With this automation you can promote products with personal recommendations and get one step closer to true personalization.

This article contains a use case based on the trigger Product purchase.

Entry conditions

First, you set the entry criteria which set which customers will enter the automation.

1. Click New automation and choose Product purchase.
2. Hover over the trigger and click on the pencil.
3. Set the criteria the customers must fulfill (e.g., a specific “Article number” or “Article name”) and start frequency (e.g., once per month).
4. Save by clicking OK.

Assign labels

You should track all contacts that have entered this automation, since you also want the option to identify them in other communication. Therefore, start off by assigning a label.

1. Click the plus sign and choose Activity.
2. Click Set label.
3. Scroll through the list of current labels or create a new one.
4. Save by clicking OK.

Timing and communication

Give the customers some time to decide whether they want to keep their purchased item or return it. Add a time delay before sending the product recommendation email.

1. Click the plus sign and choose Time delay.
2. Set how long time that shall pass before the send-out.
3. Save by clicking OK.

Now exclude the customers that have kept the item from the ones that returned it.

1. Click the plus sign and choose Condition.
2. Search for the criterion “Specific article return…” and enter your chosen article number or name.
3. Search for “Receipt date” and set it to match the time delay.
4. Save by clicking OK.

The contacts that have kept the product now get an email with a related product recommendation.

1. Click the plus sign and choose Activity.
2. Click Send email.
3. Select an email in the drop-down list or create a new one.
4. Save by clicking OK.

New purchase?

Follow up on how many of your customers that end up purchasing the recommended product.

1. Click the plus sign and then Condition.
2. Search for the criterion “Specific article return…” and enter the article number or name of the product in question.
3. Save by clicking OK.

Finish by removing the label you set at the second stage, give the automation a clear name in Settings under the three dots in the top right corner, Save, and Activate the automation.
