A Mobile swipe is a promotion form that is primarily communicated via SMS, either via manual send-outs or via automations. You simply communicate a link that leads to a designed mobile page that presents the actual offer with a swipe to redeem.
Here is an example with four pictures describing how a mobile swipe works.
- The customer receives a SMS message with information about the offer and a link to find out more
- The customer clicks on the link and gets redirected to a promotion page that he/she can show to the cashier at the checkout
- The cashier (or customer) swipes to redeem the promotion in Voyado and adds the discout manually in the cash register.
- There you go! The promotion is redeemed!
There is also the possibility to implement this promotion form in your email templates, contact your Client Manager if you are interested.
How to create a mobile swipe
Give it a name
The name is primarily for internal identification but are also shown as headers in the preview that are displayed in some mobile client's SMS inbox. Make sure that it first and foremost looks good for the end customer.
The validity can be handled in slightly different ways:
- Start date
The start date is mandatory, if you set today’s date, the campaign will be valid from when you save it. Of course, the customer doesn’t know about it until you send out separate communication. If you set a future start date, the offer will be scheduled from this date and can not be communicated via message or automation until the start date. It's also not displayed in the Voyado Loyalty Bar (for those using the Loyalty Bar).
- End date
The end date is not compulsory, it is possible to have an offer active until further notice and put an end date later (if you want to end the campaign immediately, you set a date that has passed). Remember to be as clear as possible in communicating with the customer!
- Limit validity period from the send time
Limited period of validity from the time of dispatch is mainly used when the same campaign is to be communicated via several mailings, e.g. when used in automation. If you, for example, assign a promotion with a one day validity it will be valid the day of the assignment and until 23:59:59 the day after.
An assignment of any promotion will only look att actual days (24 hours). This means that a promotion with a general end date will be active until 23:59:59 on that specific date.
A preview will not be displayed until you have filled in all required fields and saved the offer. It is possible to use personalization in the text, but you then need to know exactly what the field is called in Voyado because the simplified function is not yet implemented here.
An image is chosen either from the image archive or by uploading a new image in the archive. When you have selected the image, you have the opportunity to crop it in the swipe template, both height and width are set as absolute, so it is only possible to crop proportionally. You crop by grabbing and dragging the cursors until the desired subject appears.
To avoid heavy loading pages that take unnecessarily much mobile data for the receiver and load slowly, we recommend that you stick to a maximum size of about 250 Kb per image.
You can use GIF animations on your swipe pages. It is important to know that the measure must be exactly the same as the picture dimension we have in the template. Otherwise, Voyado tries to compress / optimize or cut the gif, resulting in its failure to work. A standard measure is 750 px in width & 400 px in height but feel free to check it with us if you are unsure.
Don't forget to preview! 🔎
Preview and make sure that all information fits in the area shown. As the mobile screens grow in size and resolution with the technology development, you should make a habit of always sending a test to your own mobile phone to ensure that all information fits on the screen.
Create your SMS message with link
Keep in mind that [[pageurl]] must be included in the text, otherwise the recipient has no opportunity to see and use the offer, if this is deleted you will not be able to save and send. But you're free to write any text you want. It may be a good idea to keep it short, you will be charged for two sms messages if the total number of characters exceeds 160 characters (and three if you exceed 320 etc).
Voyado warns you when it is certain that the size is exceeded but when the text contains a personalization field (in this case [[pageurl]]), we cannot calculate exactly how many characters it will become because the content of the field is unknown.
POS window instructions
This applies to those who use Voyado Loyalty Bar. The campaign will appear for the members who have received it and the cashier can then receive specific instructions for handling.
Send mobile swipes
- Send from promotion
Sending from the actual promotion tab is easy, you just have to choose recipients and send. If you are unsure how to choose recipients for a text message, you can read more about this here.
It's not possible to schedule send-outs in this mode, you can only send them directly. It is possible to make multiple send-outs from the same campaign, but be aware that if you send a mobile swipe several times to the same number, the recipient will have several offers to redeem.
It is possible to send two offers to the same mobile number, which may be relevant when several people share the same number (mobile number is not a unique value).
- Send from automation
An active mobile swipe can always be sent via an automation. However, there are some details to consider:
- Make sure to limit the validity period from the time of dispatch
- Make sure you do not finish the campaign without also removing it from the automation.
- Remember not to enter the validity period in the field Offer text, the correct validity period is automatically added at the time of dispatch.
Recipients and Redeemed promotions
When one or more send-outs have been created, all recipients will be displayed under Receivers in the left column and those who have used the offer under Redeemed promotions.
If you use Voyado Loyalty Bar, the campaign will appear with the internal name. The promotion can be redeemed by the cashier and will also be redeemed on the customer's promotional page and vice versa.
